28.07.2016 Messe Frankfurt's Festhalle – The long history of a crowd-pleaser

For more than 100 years, Messe Frankfurt's Festhalle has been a very special sort of trademark. Not only is it one of Germany's most popular event venues and a cultural ambassador that transcends Frankfurt's city limits, it is also part of Messe Frankfurt's historical heritage.

The Festhalle is the cornerstone of our urban exhibition grounds that internationally renowned architects including Martin Schoenmakers, Oswald Ungers, Helmut Jahn, KSP Engel/Zimmermann, Helmut Joos and Nicolas Grimshaw have endowed with an unmistakable face. With its classical exterior, the Festhalle instills the exhibition grounds with a very special charm. As an extremely versatile venue, it offers a perfect showcase for every event, be it dynamic surroundings for sporting events, a modern and spectacular backdrop for rock and pop concerts, the flash of glamour for galas or an adept technical hand for trade fairs and conferences.

When the Festhalle, which was designed by Friedrich von Thiersch, opened its doors, it stood as an architectural masterpiece with one of the largest self-supporting dome structures of its time. Thanks to a series of restoration phases and a historically accurate reconstruction, the Festhalle celebrated its 100th anniversary true to its pre-war form.

Together with Messe Frankfurt's Congress Center, the Forum and the adjacent exhibition halls, the Festhalle offers a range of exhibition areas, halls and conference rooms that meet international standards and all kinds of requirements. Every year the Festhalle boasts an impressive programme, and thanks to its extensive portfolio of events, it numbers amongst the most versatile and best-used multi-functional arenas.

The public knows the Festhalle best as the stage in the Rhine Main region for popular artists from around the globe. The hall gained international notoriety in its own right decades ago and has become a one-of-a-kind artistic chameleon – a rock pop arena for up to 15,000 spectators, a massive theatre for international shows and a sporting arena for the world's top horses or a unique finish line for marathon runners. At the same time, the Festhalle is an impressive venue for large-scale presentations at international trade fairs and product shows, as well as a unique event location, a stage for large conferences and summits and a special place for sparkling balls and jubilees.
